What a designated home state is
Most adjuster licensing works by reciprocity: you qualify in your home state, and other states grant nonresident licenses on the strength of it. A number of states do not license adjusters at all, so an adjuster who lives in one has no home license to build on. They choose another state as a designated home state, qualify there, and use that license as the base for the rest.
How it shows up in the file
Our adjuster file marks these adjusters with is_designated_home_state, 83,902 records in the current snapshot. For them home_state holds the designated state, which is often different from the state in the business address. State packs follow the business address, so a designated home state adjuster appears in the pack for where they actually work.
Why buyers care
The flag identifies working adjusters who live in states without a license of their own. They depend on one designated license for every other license they hold, so they are a natural audience for licensing services, renewal reminders and continuing-education courses accepted by the designated state.
